Nov. 8, 2023 — Fort Sumter SCV Camp Volunteers Land on Castle Pinckney and Conduct Successful Clean Up of Historic Site!

A 12-member squad of volunteers from Fort Sumter SCV Camp #1269 landed by boat on the shores of Castle Pinckney at 0900 Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, and conducted a successful clean up of the historic site! The volunteers — armed with shovels, rakes, bags and other gear — braved the deep marsh muck surrounding the site, and endured the thick odor left by the small army of Pelicans now encamped there to achieve their mission. After cleaning up the historic site and before departing around 1600, the squad of SCV volunteers then planted the “Stainless” — the Confederacy’s second national flag — at the castle. The following photos were taken by one of the clean up squad’s photographers.
